The most decadent hot chocolate, topped with chocolate whipped cream and more delicious chocolate garnishes. This rich and creamy Hot Chocolate was created for the chocolate lover in you.
What’s better than a mug of creamy and delicious hot chocolate? A mug of the chocolat-iest, chocolate-y, Chocolate Lovers Hot Chocolate! I absolutely LOVE chocolate and enjoy it in every form possible. Chocolate bars, chocolate truffles, chocolate ice-cream, chocolate milk, chocolate cereal, chocolate cake/cupcakes, chocolate milkshake and hot chocolate! It’s just one of those things that makes everything better. You could dip brussel sprouts in chocolate and I’d probably eat them. Or just lick the chocolate off and throw the brussel sprouts away, but hey—you get what I mean!
If you’re a chocolate freak like me, you’re seriously gonna fall in love with this decadent drink. This Chocolate Lovers Hot Chocolate definitely lives up to its title. A chocolate-dipped mug filled with a delightfully rich hot chocolate. All of that richness is topped with a tasty and fluffy chocolate whipped cream, chocolate sauce and chocolate curls! It’s chocolate heaven!
This is not your everyday hot chocolate. In fact, none of my hot chocolate recipes are. This drink is for those extremely cold nights when you just want to cuddle up under some blankets and indulge in a mug of the richest, sweetest and chocolate-iest hot cocoa you can get your hands on. Like it’s literally a chocolate bar in melted form, just a tad bit thinner.
Ingredients for the perfect hot chocolate
Milk — I use whole milk, mainly because it’s the only kind of milk I can drink straight up. Feel free to use 1%, 2%, skim milk whatever type of milk is your favourite.
Heavy Cream — this is what gives the hot chocolate its thick, rich and creamy texture! Many people use cornstarch to achieve this, but I prefer to use cream instead — it just tastes better!
Cocoa — Although this is hot CHOCOLATE and not hot cocoa, we do add a little bit of cocoa powder in here for extra flavour. I used regular unsweetened cocoa powder, but you can use dark or dutch-process for a deeper chocolate flavour.
Vanilla — adds flavour. That’s it! You can substitute the vanilla for peppermint extract or a touch of alcohol for an adult version!
Two types of Chocolate — I used dark chocolate AND milk chocolate in this recipe. The dark chocolate gives this drink it’s deep rich chocolate-y (how many times have I used this word now?) flavour, and the milk chocolate adds sweetness. I also added about 4 ounces more chocolate than I usually do because, I mean it’s a chocolate lovers hot chocolate, we want the chocolate flavour to be bold and in-your-face! I recommend not using chocolate chips, as they don’t melt down properly. Use a good-quality chocolate bar that you would enjoy eating on its own, like Lindt, Ghirardelli or any brand you like.
Making this hot chocolate is as easy as throwing all the ingredients into a saucepan, then heating it on the stove while whisking until it all comes together to make the most decadent hot chocolate ever!
Now there are plenty of hot chocolate recipes out there, so to make my recipe extra unique, I dipped the rim of my mugs in some melted chocolate and topped it with chocolate whipped cream. The chocolate whipped cream is simply heavy cream, powdered sugar, cocoa powder and vanilla whipped together with a hand mixer.
You could leave it there, but that wasn’t nearly chocolate-y enough for me, so I drizzled some chocolate sauce on top.
Garnished with chocolate curls…
And a little chocolate heart on top to show how much we LOVE chocolate! ❤️
The Best plan of attack when enjoying this drink
Drinking this can get pretty messy, trust me. So the best plan of attack is to lick the chocolate off the rim and eat the chocolate heart. Then take a spoon to scoop and eat the chocolate whipped cream on top and swirl some of it into the hot chocolate. Once all of those delicious obstacles are out of the way, you can finally drink the sweet liquid underneath!
